The client was a rapidly expanding global Retailer,  with the aim to retain their reputation of the healthiest fast-food business. They planned to open new stores across UK and EMEA as well as develop the online division with a new digital strategy. The high-profile company was going through a period of transformation with the leadership team developing a fresh, forward-looking plan.

The recently appointed CFO, required a strong number two with solid commercial skills. This role would be vital in achieving the forecasted growth,  and required a strong character who could use their commercial acumen to make executive decisions. They needed excellent stakeholder and team leadership skills and be an entrepreneurial asset to the board to maximise the business’ potential.

Role Requirements

The key skills and experience for the role were business partnering with sales, delivery, channel, operations, working on a store pipeline, digital strategy, FP&A, budgeting, modelling, M&A, investment cases and scenario planning. It needed to be someone who could add value, be smart and think outside the box,  with resilience and ambition to own the role, essentially advising the CFO and leadership team of the best way forward. Retail, Franchise and multi-site experience was also critical. The needed to manage and build relationships with multiple stakeholders, the business owner and hold their own in a very fast paced and ever changing environment.

The Results

Six CVs were submitted and three candidates were selected for an initial interview.  The first candidate the client interviewed was a 100% fit – they had a background in Big 4, were ACA qualified and had help a senior commercial role in a retail start up. Immediately after the interview, the client wanted to cancel the other two interviews as they ticked all of the boxes professionally and culturally and were keen to expediate the process.  It took three weeks from briefing to written acceptance. The client was extremely happy with the service, delivery and returned to TalentEdge  with repeat business to help develop the team further.
