Reason for the role & remit

In response to increasing opportunities and market demands, they required a Finance Director to play a pivotal role in their EMEA operations. The objective was to secure a permanent team member who could seamlessly collaborate with the EMEA Managing Director, contribute to annual business plans, and autonomously manage the EMEA Finance team. This strategic position also involved direct communication with the Group Finance department and senior management to facilitate key financial decisions. Reporting to and supporting the Group Finance Director, the Finance Director took charge of critical tasks spanning Reporting, Revenue Forecasting, Estimates & Contracts, Budget & Forecast, Treasury & Cash Management, Tax & Insurance, and Audit. Additionally, the role included line management responsibilities for a team of three, ensuring their professional development and career progression.

The Brief

The company sought an ambitious and experienced Finance Director with a background in creative or marketing agencies. Crucially, the ideal candidate needed to be well-versed in sector-specific accounting principles and possess expertise in a niche accounting system, Paprika. Given the demanding nature of the role and the organization’s size, the successful candidate had to be a self-driven, hardworking professional, capable of thriving in an autonomous work environment.

Success

A shortlist of  four candidates were submitted all of whom fulfilled the criteria. Recognising the urgency of the hire, the line manager swiftly advanced one candidate to the initial interview stage, impressed by their sector experience and proficiency in the required systems. Subsequently, the chosen candidate progressed to final interviews with the Managing Director and Group Finance Director.

Despite challenges related to annual leave and scheduling, the recruitment process was efficiently concluded within four weeks. The selected Finance Director, an ACCA Qualified professional with 13 years of experience in media and entertainment, proved to be an exceptional fit. With a track record of business partnering at CEO and board levels, they had spent the last three years in a No1 role within Finance, demonstrating their capability to lead a team autonomously. Their expertise in implementing the specific accounting system was a critical asset, ensuring a seamless transition into their new role and alignment with the client’s most essential requirements.
